John Mihelic has fussed and sweated over education and communication
problems for nearly three decades.
After college and a few tedious graduate lit courses, he found
work as a ghostwriter of cardiac and endocrinology journal articles
- work that looked stunningly difficult at first, but got much easier
once he cracked the doctor-speak code with the help of a good medical
dictionary.
After an eye-opening interlude as a speechwriter-spinmeister for
politicians, he became a producer of medical educational videos
for 3M Company.
From there, he went to Wilson Learning Corporation as a writer/producer,
and eventually became Larry Wilson's senior writer, writing speeches
and creating service training, sales training, and management courses.
In the early 80's, following a grant from the Bush Foundation to
study Public Television, he formed his own consulting business.
At Parallax he writes and produces educational films and training
programs for our large corporate and institutional clients. In addition
to corporate projects, he has created museum exhibits, CDRom-based
multimedia educational programs, radio programming, and radio &
TV advertising. He's also a book reviewer and a poet. His fiction
has been presented on National Public Radio.
John's philosophy and approach to education and training are simple.
Communication is the ultimate human act. Speak clearly in plain
language that anyone can follow. Never give in to jargon. Respect
the audience's intelligence, and hold their attention by offering
a vivid, engaging experience packed with as much audience involvement
as humanly possible.
